Fun with Friction

We have a problem in 5th Primary English class, every time we move our desks it sounds like a herd of elephants walking! Poor Miss Leti, who is below us, has to stop her class every time we change desk positions.
This week the girls were asked to think of a way to quiet the desks when they were being moved and make it easier for the desk to be moved. Here are some of the ideas:

In the end the 5th D class decided that the quietest and easiest desk to move were the ones with cloth or knitted swatches on the bottom. They had the least friction and were almost silent when they were moved.
